Position Overview
The Middle School Principal serves as the instructional leader, culture-builder, and operational manager of the school. They are responsible for cultivating a positive, inclusive, and academically challenging environment where every student can thrive. The principal leads with integrity, high expectations, and a commitment to continuous growth—for students, staff, and themselves.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership

Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices to ensure high academic achievement for all students.

Promote and model effective use of data to drive instruction and decision-making.

Support teachers through regular classroom observations, timely feedback, and high-quality professional development.

Lead the school’s continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with district goals.
School Climate and Culture

Build and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment where diversity is celebrated.

Foster a positive school culture that supports student success, well-being, and citizenship.

Set clear behavioral expectations and work proactively with staff, students, and parents to maintain them.

Promote student voice and leadership opportunities across the school.
Staff Supervision and Development

Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate certified and classified personnel.

Build strong, collaborative teams focused on results and continuous improvement.

Develop leadership capacity within the staff to cultivate future leaders.

Implement fair and consistent systems for employee evaluation and support.
Family and Community Engagement

Build strong partnerships with parents, caregivers, and the broader community.

Communicate regularly, transparently, and thoughtfully with all stakeholders.

Actively participate in community events and foster a positive image of the school.

Lead efforts to engage families in meaningful ways that support student learning.
Operational and Fiscal Management

Oversee daily school operations, ensuring compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal laws.

Develop and manage the school’s budget with efficiency and integrity.

Ensure the maintenance and safety of the school facility.

Organize and lead emergency preparedness drills and procedures.
Equity and Inclusion

Ensure equitable access to academic and extracurricular programs for all students.

Identify and address barriers to student achievement, particularly among historically marginalized groups.

Lead schoolwide efforts to promote culturally responsive practices.

Model equity-driven leadership in every decision and action.
Minimum Qualifications

Current Washington Administrator Certificate
-
Minimum 3–5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.

Prior leadership experience (Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, or similar preferred).

Demonstrated success in improving student achievement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, move about, hear and
speak, and be visually observant of classroom behavior and learning activities.
The employee must regularly lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds or more and occasionally lift, restrain, or move up to 100 pounds – most typically when required to intervene in student safety issues.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
