ENDORSEMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS NEEDED
A valid Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teaching Certificate with V-Codes that allow for teaching 260102 Biomedical Sciences is preferred. Other ways to qualify include candidates with 6 years or more of high school Biology instruction experience, or candidates with 6 years or more of occupational experience in Biomedical fields, or candidates with science endorsements on a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
Candidates need to either have PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Biomedical Sciences certification or the ability to attend training in the summer of 2025 (paid by the district) to earn this certification. Additional training may be required for more advanced courses.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member with administration, staff, parents, and students
- Ability to motivate and connect with high school students
- Interest and ability to develop and adapt curriculum to students’ interests and learning styles
- Ability to deliver effective instructional strategies that meet the varied needs of students
- Industry experience in a business or industry-related position preferred
- Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies
- Ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
- Ability to de-escalate student behavior
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Organize, teach and develop materials for a program that meets the course goals and objectives
- Advise a student leadership organization (SkillsUSA) including travel, competition, and fundraising
- Integrate work-based learning experiences into classroom instruction
- Provide an effective instructional environment that engages students
- Maintain appropriate and accurate records and assist in completing state reports
- Teach career exploration and assist students in the development of a High School and Beyond Plan
- Articulate programs with local community colleges
- Maintain financial records pertaining to the program and student leadership organization
- Complete program planning and program evaluation in cooperation with state guidelines
- Attend and participate in CTE advisory meetings several times a year
- Attend and participate in staffing, department, district, and employer meetings as required
- Participate and work cooperatively on school projects
- Develop, maintain, and update course frameworks as needed
- Teach approved curriculum
- Participate in IEP planning sessions as appropriate
- Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain and update all required professional certi?cations including First Aid/CPR
- Participate in professional development activities
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned
BENEFITS/COMPENSATION

- Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay opportunities above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to, supplemental pay for co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Information can be found in the OBEA CBA

- Time Off: Includes paid time off for sick, personal, religious, military and bereavement leave. Sick leave is 12 days per year for full time certi?cated teachers (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE). Personal leave is 3 days per school year (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
